Abstract
This chapter summarises some of the findings from the asthma and respiratory research carried out in the Dunedin study. The chapter discusses the issue of diagnosis, including the use of questionnaires, lung function measures, airway responsiveness assessments, responses to bronchodilators, and a measure of allergies. This is followed by a description of the longitudinal prevalence of asthma, the effect of allergy on asthma, respiratory symptoms and smoking in adolescence, and persistence and remission of childhood asthma.
