Abstract

gender psychological concepts sexuality critical feminism gender diversity support educators young people children teachers
In this chapter, we grapple with historical conceptualizations of gender, mostly interrogating Freudian- and Piagetian-derived concepts in relation to postfoundational theories. We describe current manifestations of gender and sexuality, navigating toward a contemporary understanding of gender within critical feminist-informed definitions of care and practice. We ask these questions: · What is responsive when new forms of social understanding and technology-assisted gender constructions are available? · What are supportive responses to gender-diverse young people?
