Abstract

This chapter provides an introduction to dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates. The basic meanfield theory is formulated and then numerical and variational approaches are used to find stationary states. We then discuss beyond-meanfield-effects arising from quantum fluctuations. These effects lead to the emergence of quantum droplets and supersolid states of matter. Finally we discuss the extension of these ideas to binary magnetic gases.
