Abstract
Jim Moriarty, Lisa Maule and Helen Pearse-Otene are the creative leaders of Te Rākau Hua o Te Wao Tapu (hereafter Te Rākau), Aotearoa's "longest surviving independent Māori theatre company" (Te Rākau website: https://www.terakau.org/kupu-mo-matou). Te Rākau's core creative practice - Theatre Marae - sees theatre processes "underpinned by Māori customs, language, and philosophies and founded upon a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi" (ibid.) and is also focused on hauora (wellness). Prior to this interview, Helen, Jim and Lisa have just been shown around Te Korokoro o te Tūī performing arts facility at Ōtakou Whakaihu Waka/the University of Otago by interviewer Hilary Halba.
