Abstract
A range of studies about prejudice and discrimination directed towards various groups, including migrants and refugees, exist in relation to many nation states. This introduction briefly surveys the key historical works on these issues relating to Britain, the United States and Australia. Compared with these nations, no major overview exits of such hostility towards many groups of migrants and refugees in New Zealand. There are, however, studies that bring together several migrant groups and examine discrimination and prejudice as one of many themes. Likewise, there are studies of individual migrant groups that include the hostility they encounter among other aspects of their lives. This introduction points to some of those works and provides a brief survey of the field of narrative studies before outlining the book's contributors and approaches.
