Abstract

This chapter summarises some of the Unit's research into otitis media with effusion and related risk factors and consequences. Among the developmental and behavioural consequences of otitis media with effusion are intelligence, language development, reading and behaviour. Otological sequelae of otitis media with effusion are also described including complications of tubes, cholesteatoma and calcification of the tympanic membrane. The effects of this research on policy are also described.
