Abstract

Aged care Ageing Ageism Meaning Screening, Assessment Spiritual growth
Epidemiological evidence reveals that many people are living longer and healthier lives. However, for some older people, this phase of life can be associated with a loss of autonomy, independence and a decline in health requiring support and care in a range of settings. This chapter will focus on how meaningful ageing can be preserved, safeguarding the dignity and self-respect of older people. It will provide an overview of what meaningful ageing is and how this can provide a framework for ensuring the spiritual needs of older people are assessed and supported.
