Abstract
Dr Pedro Ramos Ilgenfritz da Silva is a theatre director and one of New Zealand’s leading acting teachers. He is the artistic director of Hagley Theatre School in Christchurch and worked as a Senior Lecturer in acting training and theatre theory at Unitec’s School of Performing and Screen Arts in Auckland for 18 years. He gained a BA in Acting at Santa Catarina State University in his native Brazil and was an actor for the Atormenta Research Theatre Group, based at the university, from 1992–1999. In 2000, he moved to New Zealand, where he completed the Master of Theatre Arts in Directing at Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School and Victoria University of Wellington. He completed his PhD on the influence of Jacques Lecoq in New Zealand and Brazil at the University of Auckland in 2023.
