Abstract

AI detection Business education Critical engagement Generative AI (GenAI) Hallucination problem Higher education Humanities education Teaching and learning strategies
This chapter examines near-term future of university-level humanities and business education in the era of generative AI (GAI) by considering the fundamentals of higher education in the humanities and business disciplines and outlines the key issues. To frame these issues clearly, the chapter contains elements explaining how GAI works to make arguments as to why GAI can or cannot be expected to evolve in the near term. The most important points are twofold: that GAI detection is unlikely to be reliable in the foreseeable future, so learning and teaching strategies that take this into account are necessary; furthermore, the hallucination problem is also not likely to be solved, and this presents an opportunity for learning by critical engagement with GAI output.
