Abstract

deep fakes deep fake technology artificial intelligence AI media digital landscapes Humanities Communication technology and digital media studies
Deepfake technology refers to the use of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly deep learning, to alter existing media (images, videos, or audio) or generate synthetic content. As synthetic media becomes increasingly sophisticated with AI tools now generating hyper- realistic video, audio and images in seconds, we must critically examine both the potential risks and benefits of these emerging technologies. This one-day symposium responds to the urgent need for humanities-led perspectives on these rapidly evolving digital landscapes.
