Abstract
Rationale: Occupational Performance Coaching (OPC) is an intervention developed by occupational therapists based on core occupational theory concepts and values, yet with distinctive intervention methods. High level evidence illustrates its effectiveness with a range of populations including parents of children with neurodisability and adults with chronic health conditions. Tailoring of OPC using the Hui Process is recommended in order to address the cultural needs of Māori. Specific training in OPC is required to implement it in the way that it was intended.
Aim: Identify key elements of OPC including tailoring for Māori.
Method: Basic elements of OPC will be explained and demonstrated. Small group practice, reflection and discussion.
Learner Outcomes:
• demonstrate awareness of OPC methods and the Hui process.
• identify the relevance of OPC to their clinical context, including with Māori.
• identify their learning needs in implementing OPC.
