Wagemaker and Cade recently described the use of haemodialysis in the treatment of 6 schizophrenic patients, 5 of whom showed excellent remission despite up to 17 years of intractable illness. A subsequent report from the same group described the findings of a unique endorphin β-leu5-endorphin, in the dialysate of 5 of these patients. This substance was reported to decrease in concentration concomitantly with improvement.
