Abstract

Cassava smallholder farmers trait preferences Nigeria dietary diversity farm production diversity nutrition sensitive agriculture 1000minds survey typologies food security women's dietary diversity minimum dietary diversity for women of reproductive ages micronutrient deficiency malnutrition
This thesis seeks to help close the gap between the farmer and the breeder by clarifying which breeding traits are likely to promote the uptake of new beneficial varieties by smallholder farmers; and to investigate the dietary diversity and food security situation of these smallholder households, as well as their determinants, in order to inform strategies to reduce the risk of micronutrient deficiencies. The results chapters have been prepared for publication. Hence each results chapter (Chapters 3, 4 and 5) contains a separate abstract.
