The aim of the study was to establish the baseline values of fluorine in the water, flora and fauna of the Bluff Area before the N.Z.A.S. Aluminium Smelter began operating in the area. Samples of water, urine, bone and pasture were collected at intervals over a period of 2.5 years from farms before the smelter began operating.
