Abstract
In 1949 Moore published a very interesting paper on the determination of the sites contributing to the growth of the cranium and face in the Macaca rhesus. Unfortunately, neither the location of the growth sites contributing to increase in width of the head nor the mandible was examined. In view of an increasing interest in width dimensions of the human face, it was felt that the method outlined by Moore should be repeated the sites contributing to width increments of the head, as well as the growth of the mandible, investigated in the macaca rhesus. The use of vital injections of alizarin red S revealed mainly sutural enlargement of the cranial vault, both surface and sutural width additions to the facial bones and growth at the condylar regions of the mandible similar to that at the epiphyses of the long bones.
