Abstract
Infective Hepatitis is of quite considerable importance in peace, but has in the past caused, and is at present causing considerable concern among those whose duty it is to keep soldiers fit and armies up to strength in War. The length of time in hospital, the subsequent debility, and the possibility of relapse has placed this disease high up on the list of those whose ravages are a serious drain on our war effort.
[This thesis is]... a record of a large epidemic among New Zealand soldiers in the Western Desert in 1942 and 1943, from the study of which it was possible to arrive at the conclusions that Infective Hepatitis is s a disease caused by a virus which is present in urine and faeces and may be spread by flies.
