Abstract

aged residential care rest homes older Māori older Indigenous people healthcare experiences

This thesis examines older Māori and whānau experiences of aged residential care (ARC) services in New Zealand and the challenges that they encounter along the continuum of care that may inhibit or enhance their journey to ARC services. To better understand how healthcare services are delivered and received by older Māori and whānau, this study seeks to identify causal factors contributing to the low uptake of ARC by exploring their experiences and viewpoints of ARC in order to identify equity-oriented solutions to enhance ARC utilisation.
