Abstract
Patients were examined with the following broad objectives in mind:
a. To measure the pulmonary artery pressure in various forms of chronic pulmonary disease, with particular reference to pulmonary emphysema.
b. To observe the effects of exercise on pulmonary artery pressures.
c. To correlate the oxygen saturation of serial mixed venous blood samples obtained from the pulmonary artery with pulmonary pressures at rest and following exercise and after oxygen inhalation.
d. To observe the effect of intravenous aminophylline on pulmonary artery pressures.
e. To observe ventilatory effects on the pulmonary circulation.
f. To correlate X-ray appearances and E.C.G. tracings with P.A. pressures and study pathological material where available.
