Abstract
The objectives of this thesis are:
• To compare treatment outcome for anorexia nervosa of two specialised psychotherapies - cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) and interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) - with that of a control treatment combining clinical management and supportive psychotherapy, non-specific supportive clinical management (NSCM). It was hypothesised that the specialised psychotherapies would have a superior outcome.
• To examine therapist adherence to the three psychotherapies.
• To compare individuals diagnosed with anorexia nervosa using strict (BMI < 17.5) and lenient (17.5 :S BMI < 19) weight criteria on a range of demographic, physical, comorbidity, personality, and general psychopathology variables.
• To examine baseline predictors of initial response to treatment.
