Abstract
Primary health care is a broad population-based approach to health that combines health promotion, disease prevention, community engagement, social services as well as first-contact primary care. At its best, primary care combines continuity, comprehensiveness, coordination, accessibility, and person-centredness to improve health outcomes and equity and reduce costs. A number of papers in this issue explore these principles.
