Abstract

facial attractiveness academic achievement self esteem mental health attitudes reading Family Environment Scale (FES) FES (Family Environment Scale Diagnostic Interview Schedule for Children (DISC) DISC (Diagnostic Interview Schedule for Children)
This study examined relationships between a measure of facial attractiveness, based on a series of coloured slides, and a variety of measures of mental health, background characteristics and achievement. Physical attractiveness was significantly correlated with school attitudes, self esteem and peer relationship satisfaction. The findings supported the view that physical appearance has an impact on the educational experience and psychological wellbeing of New Zealand adolescents.
