Abstract
“The present report outlines the results of the survey of Areas Nos. 16,18, 21, 22, and 26, situated in the Uawa, Waingaromia and Tokomaru Survey Districts. [...]
Purpose of Investigation.
The purpose of investigation of theses areas was to determine the stratigraphic position and age of the structural “high points”, and to select data, fossils and any evidence pertaining to the geology of the region. especially as regards to the geology of possible petroleum accumulations.
Method of Investigation.
Areas 18 and 21 were subjected to a “Detailed” survey. A reconnaissance survey was made over Areas 16, 22 and 26. A “Detailed” survey may be considered as meaning that traverses are made of all the roads, creeks and tributaries of the area; formation boundaries are located to a fair degree of accuracy, and all outcrops studied. fossil collections are made wherever an opportunity arises.
A “Reconnaissance” survey may be defined as meaning that the roads and the main streams are traversed. The smaller creeks are traversed only when there is a minimum of outcrops in the larger ones. Fossil collections are made at localities likely to yield decisive evidence regarding the age of doubtful formations.
The Brunton Compass was used in obtaining dip and strike observations, and the Aneroid barometric readings – duly corrected – were taken as a control for elevations.” [Extract from Introduction]
