Abstract
This rangahau project explores the impact for a small number of diverse kaitiaki who completed the Kaitiakitanga – Postgraduate Diploma in Bicultural Professional Supervision course in 2023 through Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, Tāmaki Makaurau campus.
Kaitiakitanga – Footprints of Hope through the Narratives of Transformation emerged from the voices of those enrolled within this course, it is these voices that has shaped this work, including my own. This rangahau explores how this course has resonated with each kaitiaki and how the development of a kaitiakitanga model by each kaitiaki has impacted and/or transformed their practice, mahi and lives. Throughout the rangahau, I explore and reflect on my own story, considering how, as a tauiwi, I navigate spaces and places with cultural humility. Approximately 50 tauira were enrolled in this course at the Tamaki Makaurau campus, seven kaitiaki of diverse backgrounds have shared their experiences through both group and individual wānanga for this project. With their blessing, I talk about the themes of growth, healing, intentionality, connection and āhurutanga to gauge the impact this course has had on their life, both personally and professionally. These themes have emerged through the story telling of the kaitiaki and they clearly outline what resonated for them during this yearlong study.
