Abstract
“This year a sample of mutton-bird oil was sent to this University for analysis. The Professor suggested that it might prove an interesting subject for an honours thesis, for a search through the abstracts of the Journal of the Chemical Society revealed no mention of this oil. Later in the year it was brought to my notice that some constants for this oil had been determined by L. Hewgill Smith (Journal Society Chemical Industry 1911, 405).” [Extract from thesis]
