Abstract

Parrotfishes Oceania -- History Oceania – Antiquities
In many archaeological sites bones of the Scaridae family have been found to be the most common fish represented. This is a marked contrast to the impression given in modern ethnographic accounts of fishing in the Pacific Islands. This thesis seeks to bridge this gap between the ethnographic and archaeological information bearing on these fish.
