Abstract
This dissertation investigated the meaning of sustainability within the business context. The Delphi technique was used in order to ascertain the shared meaning of sustainability within the New Zealand business context by a panel of experts. It was found that while there is no single definition of sustainability within the New Zealand business context there is a common shared meaning of the term. Through an analysis of the literature and the results of the Delhi study many implications of this shared meaning to the concept of sustainability within the New Zealand business community and the wider sustainability debate were found. This study acknowledges the potential for New Zealand business to become leaders in the sustainability movement and identifies several implications to sustainability through its transference into organisational studies and organisational discourse.
