Here’s a type of law that rarely comes up in discussions of legal pluralism: Buddhist law, the collection of rules, regulations and tribunals found across Asia that purport to protect and implement the teachings of the Buddha. Buddhist law is one of the world’s most ancient and widespread legal traditions. Buddhist monastic law, a subset of Buddhist law, is among the oldest legal systems in continual use anywhere on the planet.
