Abstract
Contemporary Christianity is often guilty of offering "otherworldly" theologies in which other species and the created order, in general, are viewed merely as a backdrop for what is conceived as the key event—God’s relationship with Homo sapiens. But is our species really the centre of the still unfolding story of God’s relationship with all of creation? This article offers a brief overview of how creatures are portrayed within the Christian Scriptures. Bringing a selection of narratives into conversation with discoveries from the natural sciences, the article contends that anthropocentric Biblical theologies are guilty of downplaying the theological significance of other creatures.
