Abstract
This article is a summary of the proceedings of the international symposium ‘Environmental Adjudication in the 21st Century,’ held in Auckland, New Zealand in April 2017. The symposium was organised by a research group formed to discuss and debate the challenges of adjudicating for the environment, based at the University of Otago, and comprised of academics, judges and environmental law practitioners from around the world. The Auckland Symposium was attended by 200 people and brought together representatives of over 30 jurisdictions engaged in specialist environmental adjudication. Participants were privileged to hear presentations from members of the judiciary and academics from around the world, with the keynote address being given by Lord Carnwath of the UK Supreme Court.
