Abstract
Primary care–led health systems have been consistently shown to provide better health outcomes and greater patient satisfaction than secondary care–led health systems. Primary care–led health care actively promotes health in the community as well as providing easily accessible entry to the health care system, in a comprehensive and continuing way, encompassing secondary and tertiary services when required. The successful delivery of primary care– led care requires effective teamwork and interprofessional practice (IPP) on the part of all health professionals. This sounds sensible, and is often assumed, but is much less often achieved.
