Abstract
This article introduces a special issue of papers presented at the EURING 2013 technical conference on the analysis of data from marked individuals. The EURING technical conferences were originally established to bring together ecologists and statisticians to develop methods to estimate demographic parameters such as survival, recruitment, density, population size and movement from the large accumulated datasets on marked birds, but many methods are also relevant to other taxa. Papers in this issue cover a range of topics include new statistical modelling approaches, spatially explicit modelling, experimentation and hypothesis testing, integrating data from multiple sources and occupancy modelling.
