Abstract
I have been a pluralist for a long time, and, as a result, I don’t think asking the "law question" or "What is law" is inherently meaningful (at least in an abstract sense). Instead, I have found a more interesting focus is on how law is performed. Law is performative. Much of my work is motivated by that insight and attempting to clarify the performative operations of law. In my view, asking “What is law?” reifies or thing-ifies law as though it is substance, a material or a thing we know, instead of something we do and perform with others.
