Abstract
A new approach is needed to understand and shape the food production system in Aotearoa New Zealand for wellbeing and health equity, to ensure international commitments to healthy sustainable development are met, as well as to meet obligations to address climate change and achieve Indigenous rights. This will require deeper systems analysis, and a comprehensive approach to food policy that covers food gathering, harvesting, growing and producing, and that centres Mātauranga Māori and a broad understanding of health equity.
