Abstract
How many confirmed kills had Jason Bourne? Who cares? Better to ask who put Jason Bourne in the position to do Jason Bourne things like kill presidents of un-named African nations, and who put other operatives in place to do Jason Bourne things to Jason Bourne? The Matt Damon Bourne movies offer 465 minutes of run time; minus credits, the Bourne series offers about seven and a half hours of movie. Jason Bourne takes up most of that time. For instance, in the 1:51:26 of screen time in The Bourne Identity (Doug Liman, 2002), scenes without Bourne’s direct involvement amount to twenty-two and a half minutes, about 20% of the film. While these glimpses of Bourne without Bourne are partial and incomplete, I want to analyse nonBourne CIA work, however briefly glimpsed.
