Abstract
As Indigenous Māori researching in the area of hauora Māori, our vision is for all mokopuna Māori and their whānau and communities to thrive and flourish. In order for this to happen, Māori must be free from racism and all forms of oppression.
We are an Indigenous collaborative of Kaupapa Māori rangatahi and pakeke Māori based in both community and university rangahau environments. Drawing on Kaupapa Māori theory and praxis in our development of decolonial and antiracist approaches to rangahau, we collectively work across our diverse spaces and places to address systems of coloniality and racism, and their impacts on hauora Māori.
This article describes the development of The Waka of Love (2021), a decolonial anti-racist stage production situated within a broader Kaupapa Māori mixed-methods rangahau project. The production examined the impacts of racism on hauora Māori for mokopuna Māori (mokopuna) aged between ten and twenty-four years in Aotearoa.
