Abstract
This paper discusses the need for improved methods of identifying children with early developmental language disorders. It also presents some results from the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Child Development Study and describes a preliminary classification of developmental language delay that was developed some years ago. The paper is now superseded by RO33.
