Abstract
This paper reports research findings related to the achievement in a large group of children of two early motor milestones (sitting and walking) and the relationship between these milestones and three year co-ordination and language development measures. The purpose of the study was to estimate the significance of early delayed motor development for motor and language development in three year olds. Knowledge of the predictive significance of early delayed motor development is important to clinicians as they are often called upon to assess children with delayed development and to report on the possible meaning of such delays for later developmental progress. This early paper has now been superseded by a number of others (e.g. see RO26 and RO27).
