Abstract

Two new fossil species of Amphithyris Thomson, 1918 are described from the Late Eocene - earliest Oligocene Alma Group strata near Oamaru, North Otago, New Zealand. The two fossil species lived at mid to outer shelf depths. One of the new species has unusual teeth and socket ridges for platidiids. These are the first reported examples of fossil Amphithyris globally.
