Abstract
The Māori health data governance (MHDGov) planning and protocol checklist offers a practical, implementation-focused framework to support health agencies and researchers to implement Te Kāhui Raraunga Māori Data Governance Model. This paper presents an evaluation of the MHDGov checklist, applied to the abdominal aortic aneurysm and atrial fibrillation screening research programme in the Health Gain Development team, Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand. Desktop review and wānanga were utilised to critically review existing processes and assess the Māori data governance checklist. Results suggest that the MHDGov checklist added significant value to the Health Gain Development team's research programme, filling an important implementation gap through structured and practical guidance.
