We are grateful for the comments by Jhang et al. on our study, examining the incidence and risk factors of persistent opioid use (POU) among opioid-naïve patients after hospitalization due to trauma in New Zealand (NZ). Jhang et al. suggested that further discussion on nonpharmacological and nonopioid analgesics for pain management and the differences in socioeconomic status, health care access, and cultural attitudes between ethnic groups in NZ was warranted. We acknowledge the importance of these suggestions, as these factors would allow us to provide a more in-depth and accurate interpretation of our study.
