We read with interest the clinical correspondence entitled "Lead pencil: a case of intractable abdominal pain secondary to lead poisoning" by Van der Sluis and Sutherland and wish to offer some points of clarification of the discussion with respect to the efficacy of chelation in severe lead toxicity.
