Abstract
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and atherosclerosis cause significant morbidity and can lead to death. Despite affecting discrete vascular beds, there appears to be an association between venous thrombosis and future arterial events, including myocardial infarction and stroke. However, it is not known whether DVT affects the arterial system directly, whether any association is the result of shared risk factors, or whether common processes are important for both arterial and venous thrombi.
