Abstract
William Larnach was a New Zealand businessman and politician who died by suicide on October 12, 1898. The opera tells the story of the circumstances that led him to take this action. It is in two acts:
Act One: The Morning
Act Two: The Evening
Instrumentation: two sopranos, mezzo-soprano, tenor, two baritones; flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, timpani, percussion (one player), strings (three violins, three violas, two cellos, 1 double bass).
