Abstract
These settings of poems by Denis Glover are evocative of the rural South in New Zealand. They were composed for the Jubilate Singers who have recorded them for a CD of New Zealand music named 'Southern Landscapes.'
These songs were commissioned in 2010 by The Jubilate Singers, conductor Grant Hutchison, for a concert of New Zealand music on the theme of New Zealand landscape. The poems by Denis Glover come from his cycle 'Arawata Bill'(1953), based around the life of an old gold miner in the South Island of New Zealand. These poems and their settings are evocative of the southern landscape.
Dedicated to my brother, Simon.
