'Piano Practice' was commissioned by The Southern Consort of Voices to celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2010. It is a setting of a poem by New Zealander Lauris Edmond, describing a young girl practicing the piano and comparing the rigorous discipline of this exercise with the freedom of playing outside. The song is designed for a chamber choir of about 30 singers, splitting into 8 parts at various stages. It was premiered in June at the Otago Girls High School Auditorium. Dedicated to The Southern Consort of Voices.
