Abstract
Originally conceived as a concerto for soprano saxophone, this sonata was commissioned by Mark Hobson, with funding from the New Zealand Arts Council. Ritchie transcribed it in 2002 for oboe and piano, but had to wait until 2010 to perform it for the first time in Paris, during the oboe festival. This sonata is characterized by a continuous movement, divided into 3 main sections: Allegro vivace, Adagio and Maestoso.
