This work was written for an international tour by violist Donald Maurice and poet Sharn Maree Cassidy. Taioro ki te Whenua speaks to the relationship that humanity has with te taiao - the natural environment. The piece pays homage to mother earth and the multitude of ways in which we love her and mistreat her. It's a tango of our love/lust relationship, humankind’s conquest to mine her as a resource and nurture her as a provider, and the ongoing effects of this mistreatment. The Taioro ki te Whenua world premiere was held in Brazil, 2024.
