Abstract

Peter Adams (music director, conductor), Terrence Dennis (music director, conductor), Anthony Ritchie (music director, conductor), Tessa Petersen (orchestra leader, soloist, violin), Heleen Du Plessis (orchestra leader, soloist, cello), Sofia Kalogeropoulou (choreographer), Judy Bellingham (vocalist), Jennifer Cattermole (taonga pūoro) performed alongside the 150th Gala Concert Orchestra, City Choir Dunedin and Southern Concert of Voices at the Gala concert A Celebration of Otago in Words and Music held at the Dunedin Town Hall to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the University of Otago. The concert was a feast of prose, poetry and music with connections to the University from the early days right up to the present. Also performing were the 2019 Capping Sextet, O-Taiko - Dunedin's Drumming Ensemble, vocal soloists Anna Leese, Rebecca Ryan, Kawiti Waetford and Joel Amosa, organist David Burchell, alongside MCs Lisa Warrington and Peter Hayden. The concert raised more than $14,000 for EXPINKT™ breast cancer exercise rehabilitation charity.
