Abstract
This paper describes a method for the rapid preparation of total cellular DNA from buccal cavity swabs (Cheeky DNA). The method is simple, cheap and although producing DNA of low purity, is able to produce DNA which is amplifiable by PCR. Moreover, relatively large quanitities of DNA are produced in contrast to other rapid methods of DNA extraction. We show that different restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) are detectable using DNA prepared with this method. This approach should be useful for large scale analysis required by epidemiological research employing simple genetic screening.
