Abstract
Tangaroa voyage TAN2006 took place from 26 June - 17 July 2020, with an unscheduled port call in Wellington from 29 June - 1 July due to equipment problems. The voyage objectives focused on geophysical studies of seafloor pockmarks on the Chatham Rise, as well as possible pockmarks and contourite deposits in the Bounty Trough. We acquired nearly equal 800 km of 2D seismic data, nearly equal 500 km of which were in a dense grid designed for high-resolution 3D seismic imaging across a pockmark field on the Chatham Rise. The other nearly equal 300 km of seismic data were collected as regional profiles stretching into the Bounty Trough. Approximately 2900 km of TOPAS sub-bottom profiler data were collected, including along all seismic profiles. Coverage across the 3D seismic area is particularly dense, with in- and cross-lines at 25 m spacing in the centre of the 3D cube. We also collected multibeam echo-sounder data with the R/V Tangaroa's Kongsberg Simrad EM302 system. Weather-related downtime for seismic profiling was nearly 50%; however, we were able to acquire high-quality TOPAS data during most the voyage
